Name: Zychiel or Zycheir
Species: Angel → Oscuraph
Element: Water
Magic Color: Teal
Gender: Egogender
Pronouns: They/He/any (he/they in disguise)
Height: ~8'6" / 2.6m main, ~14' / 4.3 m alt
Alignment: Rogue
Dates: formed ~4000 BCE, transitioned 798 BCE
Location: physical plane and external dimensions
Zychiel is an extremely individualistic Oscuraph, living only by Their own principles. To Them, authority and rights are asserted by power; there is no sin in amassing strength through the consumption of souls. While They will generally leave pure souls and minimally corrupt souls be, even minor corruption makes Them look upon those souls as nothing more than sustenance. They enjoy the act of consuming souls, finding delight and pleasure in the sensation of consuming them.
Zychiel enjoys the experience of forming deep but often temporary bonds. They will often disguise Themself as human and live like one, seeing if They can naturally form a bond with any particular individual. That relationship may be platonic, familial, romantic, physical, or any other sort; They will respond in ways that artfully deepen the relationship only as far and in the way the other would like to go. Zychiel, however, does not experience love and affection as humans do. To Them, such deep relationships are a form of mental pleasure—something that "feels nice." While Zychiel will never be the one to walk away from a relationship with a mortal, when the human dies or the relationship is ended by them, Zychiel feels no emotional pain. They simply file the experience into one of many pleasant memories. Zychiel's favored way of ending relationships, however, is for the mortal to willingly give their soul to Them. Since Zychiel will often reveal Their nature to Their partner, this does happen a fair amount of the time.
As Zychiel is identified as a rogue Entity by the Ordained, They sometimes run into trouble. They are powerful enough to put up a fight, but if Their location is revealed to the Ordained, They will often flee the Ecliptic universe and wander other dimensions. While in external dimensions, Zycheir may continue to form relationships, but They also make efforts to "sample" the souls of various other dimensions to experience the taste.
Oscuraph Abilities
Zychiel has all the abilities Oscuraphim have, including shapeshifting, soul magic, primal magic, and sourcing Their power from both the collective power of Angels and through consuming souls like Demons.
Element: Water
Zychiel's element is water. They can create and manipulate water in all its forms, including ocean water, rain, water vapor, and liquids with high water content, including blood. They can also purify water.
Zychiel formed as an Angel around 4000 BCE. They were soon discovered and brought to Lux, where They were invited to enter the resonance of Angels. While They accepted, They did not develop any particular preferences right away—They simply followed Their instinct to enter the physical plane and help souls ascend.
It was in the physical plane that They met Demons for the first time, and that sparked the first taste of interest in Them. Instead of entering conflict with Demons, They observed them. They watched as Demons consumed souls of the corrupt, and Zychiel found Themself wishing that They could do the same. However, at that time, no one knew that Entities could cross the borders of Light and Darkness, so Zychiel simply continued as before.
This bland existence continued for thousands of years until Sekriel became an Oscuraph in 801 BCE. Zychiel was fascinated, and approached Sekriel to learn more about them and the new nature of their existence. The two shared stories of their experiences with Demons and Zychiel probed at how Sekriel had accepted the Darkness. It was not a simple matter of visiting the Plane of Darkness and trying to absorb that primal energy—They needed to accept the Darkness at a fundamental level. Three years later, in 798 BCE, They were able to achieve their transformation into an Oscuraph.
Zychiel soon became aware of a strange new sensation—a hunger for souls. They used their new ability to detect corruption to seek out the corrupt, tearing out their souls to have a taste. Zychiel enjoyed it—perhaps too much. They began to target souls with milder levels of corruption and snatching souls that were already being hunted by other Demons. Zychiel's actions contributed to the growing wariness both Angels and Demons had of the Ecliptic, and in 790 BCE, they were cast out from the Plane of Light, just as Sekriel and many other Ecliptic were.
Later, Sekriel found Zychiel and invited them to the newly-discovered Plane of Twilight—though they also asked for Zychiel to avoid causing trouble while they tried to figure out what to do. Zychiel gave a noncommittal agreement, and decided to disguise Themself in society to entertain themself another way. Like this, They started Their "hobby" of forming incredibly intimate relationships with mortals, which sometimes ended with the mortal willingly giving their soul to Them. When Sekriel and other Ordained Ecliptic discovered this, they branded Zychiel as rogue and attempted to stop Them. Zychiel fled, managing to escape to another dimension. Their explorations across different universes are stories in and of themselves, but in time, Zychiel returned to Their original universe, hiding amongst society for their own pleasure and entertainment. Whenever They are about to be caught, they flee to other dimensions for a time.
Sekriel | Friend (?) → Opponent
Zychiel and Sekriel came to know each other more personally after Sekriel became an Oscuraph. Zychiel was fascinated by their twilight nature, and the two got along fairly well. After the Ecliptic were cast out from Lux and Umbra, Sekriel invited them to the Plane of Twilight. However, when Zychiel started to consume non-corrupt souls and interfering with others' hunts, Sekriel was in agreement with others in labeling Zychiel as rogue, and took part in attempts to hunt Them down and contain Them. Zychiel will often converse with Sekriel in battle, but will flee if They feel that things are getting too risky for Them to stay.
Reiarch | Friend (?)
Reiarch and Zychiel tempt each other in different ways. Reiarch is fascinated by Zychiel, drawn in by His power and his rogue behavior. Zychiel finds Reiarch's attention to be particularly enjoyable, despite Reiarch being in touch with Entities who would be eager to put Zychiel in containment. Their encounters are full of teasing words from Reiarch and light threats and warnings from Zychiel, yet more often than not, they end up becoming entangled in more physical ways.
Name: Jhaku
Species: Demon → Lumion
Element: Earth
Magic Color: Gray-Brown
Gender: None
Pronouns: it/any
Height: ~20' (see image)
Alignment: Ordained
Dates: formed ~3500 BCE, transitioned 782 BCE
Location: Twilight Plane or physical plane
Jhaku is a scholarly and inquisitive Lumion with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. It finds purpose in understanding, documenting, and connecting disparate pieces of information. It approaches existence with methodical curiosity, carefully observing and cataloging the world around it. Despite its Demonic origins, Jhaku lacks the typical hunger for consuming souls, instead finding fulfillment in intellectual pursuits and diplomatic endeavors.
Jhaku has developed a genuine appreciation for connection and communication. It possesses a quiet patience and diplomatic tact that allows it to move between the different factions with unusual ease. Though not emotionally expressive, it shows its care through attentive listening and meticulous preservation of others' stories and histories. When speaking, Jhaku tends to be precise and thorough, with a clarity that makes complex concepts accessible to any audience.
Lumion Abilities
Jhaku has all the abilities Lumions have, including shapeshifting, soul magic, primal magic, and sourcing Their power from both the collective power of Angels and through consuming souls like Demons.
Element: Earth
Jhaku's element is earth. It can create and manipulate any natural minerals, whether elemental or otherwise. This includes rocks, crystals, and various forms of soil and dirt.
Jhaku and Bellat formed around the same time, approximately 3500 BCE. Jhaku felt a strong bond with Bellat right away, and followed it in their early existence; Bellat seemed indifferent to Jhaku but accepted its presence. The two set out to the physical plane on their own, following their natural instinct to consume corrupt souls. Bellat was the more proactive of the two, however, and Jhaku was often left only with "leftovers"—a bit of scattered essence that Bellat fed to them when it consumed souls. Eventually, Bellat grew too strong for Jhaku to follow; a conflict with Angels left Jhaku severely weakened. Bellat told Jhaku that it was too weak, and brought it to Umbra before departing for their own hunts.
In Umbra, other Demons took Jhaku in and taught it about all sorts of things—Demons, the Plane of Darkness, Angels, the physical plane, souls… Jhaku absorbed it all like a sponge, learning faster than most other Demons. It discovered a preference for learning, and desired to learn everything it could.
Jhaku became a scholar, in some sense. It observed and recorded the happenings of Umbra, including the happenings of abyssal nobility—the Abyssal Ones, their courts, and the Shadows. Though Jhaku never had a taste for battle, it had a way with words and stood by the side of several different Abyssal Ones throughout the years, happy to serve and learn ever more.
Then, the Ecliptic came into being. Jhaku was surprised to see Bellat transformed with Light, and approached Bellat to learn about them. Bellat, indifferent as always, accepted Jhaku's presence and shared its knowledge. By then, Jhaku had learned almost all there was to learn of Umbra and Demons; hearing Bellat's experiences sparked its interest in learning about Lux and Angels as well.
Jhaku entreated Bellat to guide it to the Plane of Light, which it would have difficulty accessing on its own. Bellat agreed, though warned that it would be difficult for Jhaku. Indeed, when Jhaku first arrived, the Light was so blinding that it could not perceive anything. After some time, though, it became accustomed to it and approached a wandering Angel to help it enter Lux. The Angel was surprised, but seeing Jhaku's mild demeanor and genuine interest, they agreed to be its patron for entry. Thus, Jhaku somehow managed to become a scholar of Lux and Angels, even as a Demon. It grew into something of a diplomatic role as it traveled between Lux and Umbra.
Then, the Ecliptic were cast out of Lux in 790 BCE. Jhaku managed to stay, given its scholarly contributions and diplomatic status. However, something was already changing in it. Its disposition was never particularly Demonic, with its pursuit of erudition and clarity, and its lack of desire to consume corrupt souls. At one point, it started to sprout feathers, which it hid—since the Ecliptic were not welcome in Lux. However, suppressing its changing characteristics in the long term grew to be unbearable, even to the point of pain. Eventually, in 782 BCE, it collapsed, light bursting out as its form and spirit completed the transformation into a Lumion.
Before Jhaku could be cast out, it fled on its own. It found Bellat, chasing its wavelength. With an odd gentleness, Bellat brought Jhaku into the fold of its wings before leading Jhaku to the Plane of Twilight.
Life in the Plane of Twilight was peaceful, but perhaps a little too peaceful. Jhaku had become accustomed to constant intellectual stimulation, and thus grew horribly bored. Before long, it decided to start an "archive" for the Ecliptic, much like there were archives in Lux and Umbra. Jhaku recorded their history, metaphysiology, and names and descriptions for every Ecliptic it knew of. This archive, which was recorded on stone-like obelisks of primal energy, was eventually integrated into Vespertine during its construction in 780 BCE.
Centuries later, Jhaku reconnected with both Lux and Umbra as part of the attempts of the Ecliptic at mediation. Once again, it became an ambassador—not just between Lux and Umbra, but now for the Ecliptic as well. At present, it continues its scholarly pursuits, seeking knowledge of all things.
Bellat | "Sibling"
From the moment of its formation, Jhaku felt an inexplicable connection to Bellat, following it with quiet persistence despite Bellat's initial indifference. What began as a one-sided attachment evolved over millennia into a peculiar form of kinship.
For Bellat, Jhaku began as merely a presence it tolerated—a shadow that didn't merit dismissal but didn't command attention either. Yet over time, Bellat developed something almost like protectiveness for a weak little thing that barely seemed like a Demon at all. When it was weakened by an Angel, it brought Jhaku to Umbra; when Jhaku fled from Angelic and Demonic society after its transformation into a Lumion, Bellat was gentle, even, in bringing it to the Plane of Twilight.
From Jhaku's perspective, Bellat represents both an enigma worth studying and a constant in its ever-expanding universe of knowledge. While Jhaku has long since outgrown its early dependence on Bellat, it maintains a profound respect for its "sibling" Entity. Where others see only Bellat's merciless efficiency, Jhaku perceives the complex balance of judgment and necessity that drives Bellat's actions. The two often go centuries without meaningful interaction, yet their paths eventually reconverge, each time with a deeper, unspoken understanding between them.
Name: Faeliel [FAY-lee-ul]
Species: Angel (Ecliptic World)
Element: Air
Magic Color: Sky Blue
Gender: None
Pronouns: it/any (she/they in disguise)
Height: ~8"
Alignment: Autonomous
Dates: formed ~2500 BCE
Location: physical plane mostly
Faeliel is an Angel who collaborates with a magic human organization that is, on the surface, a service for counseling and psychotherapy with both physical locations and online services. It often disguises itself as a human with the name of Fay, occasionally providing the services personally, i.e. acting as a counselor/therapist. The organization has various goals, including finding other magic users in hiding and giving counseling to train and control their powers, healing those who are corrupt or on the way to corruption, healing those who have been harmed, and helping people find meaning and fulfillment in their lives.
Faeliel is an Angel with goals of bettering the world and helping souls ascend—they are an Angel who never seeks to harm. However, it is primarily motivated by curiosity, not altruism; it has a high level of cognitive empathy but little emotional empathy. It wants to understand the puzzle of human psychology and behavior, and it seeks to learn all the proper social skills to give humans the right signals to make them feel safe and comfortable. It wonders about the limits of humans' will, wanting to see what others can achieve when they seek fulfillment. It considers corruption and straying from ascension as a waste of potential.
When disguised as Fay, she exudes an aura of gentle comfort and reassurance. She is often smiling warmly, willing to listen to anyone's words and offering a guiding hand wherever she is needed. Humans often cannot help but trust and confide in her. In her early days disguised as a human, she might have offered smiles when sympathy would have been more appropriate and gave off a more uncanny aura, but at present, her demeanor is refined to near-perfection.
Angel Abilities
Faeliel has all the abilities Angels have, including shapeshifting, soul magic, primal magic, and sourcing their power from both the collective power of Angels.
Element: Air
Faeliel's element is air. They can create breezes and winds as well as alter the temperature, pressure, and density of air. Through their abilities, they can cause objects to become suspended in the air, as they were floating in water.
Faeliel formed during the Conflict Era, around 2500 BCE. It was found by other Angels and brought to Lux, where it learned much about the world through resonance with the harmony of Angels. As soon as it tasted knowledge, it began to form the desire for more. It had learned all of the semantic knowledge the resonance could give them, and so turned its curiosity to other Angels. Sekriel was one Angel who received Faeliel's intense curiosity, and it was mainly through conversations with them that Faeliel developed its own preference of helping souls ascend through peaceful means.
These peaceful means required Faeliel to spend more time in the physical plane, and their curiosity quickly expanded to human individuals. They had a few disagreements with more violent Angels and Demons who impeded its work, though it avoided engaging in actual battle. Faeliel was part of the chorus of voices calling for armistice, and they were quite satisfied when Angels and Demons agreed to it around 1500 BCE.
When Sekriel appeared as the first recorded Oscuraph, Faeliel was surprised—and curious more than anything else. After Bellat's display of power and the subsequent casting out of the Ecliptic, including Sekriel, Faeliel decided to leave the Plane of Light and make their home in the physical plane, where it could meet Sekriel and continue their connection. Faeliel continued to remain in the physical plane, even through the drastic changes of Entity society and the growth of the Ecliptic faction.
Faeliel continued its work in helping humans ascend while disguised as a human in society. Around 1000 CE, it became part of a secret group of magic-wielding individuals who wished to help and protect each other. Faeliel was intrigued by the potential of such an organization, and decided to protect it and help it grow. Most only knew Faeliel as another magic-wielder, though some—usually the leadership—knew it was an Angel in human form, guardian of them all.
Throughout the years, Faeliel helped guide other magic users and those seeking refuge to the organization, which came to be called Faeron. The organization had various goals, including finding other magic users in hiding and giving counseling to train and control their powers, healing those who are corrupt or on the way to corruption, healing those who have been harmed, and helping people find meaning and fulfillment in their lives.
Around the 1800s to 1900s, Faeliel suggested the organization change its approach—instead of being completely underground, they could establish it as an organization for psychological therapy, counseling, and mental health. From that point on, Faeliel spent much of its time as a counselor.
Sekriel | Friend (?)
Sekriel and Faeliel knew each other as Angels during the Conflict Era. Faeliel had always preferred peaceful approaches over Sekriel's mercilessness, though the two acknowledged their differences and were able to share comfortable company. When Sekriel was cast out, Faeliel did not particularly agree with the decision and decided to go to the physical plane, where they were able to meet Sekriel and maintain their friendship of sorts.
Reiarch | Friend
Faeliel and Reiarch met around 1000 BCE. The two sparked a connection immediately, finding a kinship with Faeliel's drive of curiosity and Reiarch's drive of seeking interesting amusements. Whenever they meet, they share all sorts of stories and facts with each other, sometimes simply enjoying each other's company.
Name: Reiarch
Species: Demon (Ecliptic World)
Element: Nature
Magic Color: Yellow
Gender: None
Pronouns: they/it/any
Height: see image
Alignment: Autonomous
Dates: formed ~1200 BCE
Location: physical plane or Umbra
Reiarch is a Demon who enjoys the game of deals, seeking out corrupt souls and bringing them into deals that, more often than not, end up in the corrupt soul being given willingly per terms of the contract. If the corrupt human "wins," usually the terms of winning require that they heal their corruption and become better people, along with some other incentives. They are very patient and excellent at negotiation. They are quite honest and principled, despite their taste for mischief; they will not try to cheat a deal, but they can be a bit manipulative or coercive when getting a corrupt soul to enter a deal.
(For instance, Reiarch might say that they could just eat their soul directly.)
Reiarch is the sort to seek out various amusements and pleasures for their enjoyment. They enjoy sharing the stories of their escapades with other Entities including Demons, the Ecliptic, and Angels. Most of their time is spent in the physical plane, monitoring their deals or seeking out entertainment for themself, though otherwise they will linger in Umbra.
Demon Abilities
Reiarch has all the abilities Demons have, including shapeshifting, soul magic, primal magic, and gaining power through consuming souls.
Element: Nature
Reiarch's element is nature. They can create and manipulate the organic matter of plants, fungi, and other non-animal macroorganisms. They can also create organic compounds and compounds that have effects on organic creatures, such as poisons and medicines.
Reiarch formed during the Armistice, around 1200 BCE. They wandered the Plane of Darkness aimlessly for some time before a small horde of weak demons encountered them and invited them to join. They agreed, and partook in the hunts organized by the horde for several years. As it learned more about Demons and humans, it experienced the emotion of boredom for the first time. It wanted to be stronger, and it wanted to experience more interesting things. Reiarch began to approach their hunts more artfully, and once they refined their skills enough, they left the horde to make their way on their own.
However, before continuing their hunts, they went to Umbra to learn everything they could—whether from other Demons or from the various "libraries" of information encoded in Umbra's structures. Reiarch became intrigued by stories more than pure information, going through various phases of adopting the behaviors of various characters to get a feel for them. Sometimes, they would craft concepts of personas and take on those roles to experience such an identity. Through this process, Reiarch refined the personality and self they wished to be: principled but insidious, elegant yet mischievous, subtle but powerful.
When they returned to the physical plane, they were ready to live their best life.
